A Historic Tour of Wyre

A Historic Tour of Wyre

Wyre

Where else can you find yourself less than an hour away from the Lake District, the Peak District, the Forest of Bowland AONB, the bright lights of Manchester and the serenity of Morecambe Bay?

Imagine enjoying unspoiled countryside with pleasant waterways, ancient churches, historic markets and cosy country inns one day and the heady fun of traditional seaside resorts with a pier, exciting amusements, sandy beaches and a variety of shows and seaside entertainment the next. You’re imagining Wyre.
At the thriving seaside resort of Fleetwood, enjoy family fun and great days out all year round with the traditional market, beautiful marina and Freeport outlet. Visit Farmer Parr’s Animal World, or Fleetwood Museum, which depicts the town’s maritime history.

A short tram ride north along the coast from Blackpool lies the popular seaside resort of Cleveleys, one of our busiest shopping centres, with an enviable range of shops. At Thornton, visit Marsh Mill Village for a tour to the top of one of Europe’s tallest windmills and some speciality shopping or dining.
Poulton-le-Fylde with its cobbled streets, marketplace, medieval stocks and historic church attracts visitors year after year. This is also a centre for lively evenings out with a great assortment of café’s, restaurants and pubs.

Wyre has a lot of tiny villages, dotted with whitewashed cottages, well kept farmhouses, craft stores, waterways and ancient churches. Each has its own character and charm – make sure you stop for a cream tea in the lovely surroundings of some of Britain in Bloom’s best villages!

Visit Garstang, a medieval town with traditional market every Thursday and history down every winding alley. Garstang is also a gateway to some fine walking and cycling routes that follow the River Wyre upstream deep into the Forest of Bowland and along the tranquil Lancaster Canal as well as offering an opportunity to participate in a wide range of rural pursuits.
