The beautiful countryside of Worcestershire’s Heritage Garden is cradled by the ancient Malvern Hills and the soft, mellow Cotswolds and offers the visitor a unique chance to experience the very essence of England and her rich heritage.
To the south of the area lies the fertile Vale of Evesham. Each spring, thousands of visitors come to enjoy the fruit blossom with many following the 40 mile Vale of Evesham Spring Blossom Trail. The trail winds through some of the prettiest roads and lanes in the area bordered with the captivating colours of soft pink tones of cherry and apple blossom with the white of the pear and plum.
With so much high quality produce grown in the Vale, it seems only natural to introduce the new Vale Trail - designed to give you a gastronomic and horticultural taste of the area. You can pick and choose along the way from farmshops, garden centres and nurseries, pubs and restaurants, visitor attractions and horticultural events.
Staying in the south and on the border with Gloucestershire is the idyllic Cotswold village of Broadway. The picturesque backdrop of honey coloured cottages and the gently winding ‘broad’ main street compliment the fine selection of antique and local craft shops, art galleries, local crafts and quality boutiques.
Between Broadway and the county town of Worcester, lies the thriving market town of Evesham. Throughout its history, the River Avon has protected the town making it one of the last Civil War Royalist strongholds. Make sure of a visit to the Almonry Heritage Centre to find out more about Evesham’s fascinating history and whilst there, pick up a leaflet on the town’s many seasonal traditional events.
A tour of Worcestershire’s Heritage Garden would not be complete without a visit to Pershore and Droitwich Spa. Pershore is popular for its attractive Georgian architecture and like Evesham, Pershore has lots of vibrant seasonal festivals including Brass and Jazz festivals, Flower and Craft show and in August, the ever popular Plum Fayre.
Droitwich Spa, in the north of the district/county, has a history dating back to pre-historic times and was known as Salinae (the place of salt) by the Romans. Once a fashionable Spa town, Droitwich Spa has Britain’s only natural brine spa complex – the perfect place to relax and unwind after so much ‘Trailing’ about!
