The Oxfordshire Cotswolds

The Oxfordshire Cotswolds is rural England at its finest: green rolling hills, dry stone walls, villages of honey coloured stone, riverside meadows ablaze with wild flowers, a landscape dotted with buildings and monuments commemorating figures from the past and market towns alive with the bustle and vitality of modern life. The perfect place to be as active or inactive as you like…

The area has a wealth of great attractions and is particularly rich in history and heritage. Blenheim Palace, a World Heritage Site, and ancestral home of Winston Churchill is one of England’s major attractions but there are other fine houses with charms of their own: Chastleton House, one of Britain’s finest Jacobean houses; Kelmscott Manor, the evocative country home of William Morris; and Rousham House with fine landscaped gardens. For those wanting to travel still further back in time there are the mysterious Rollright Stones, a prehistoric stone circle, the Roman villa at North Leigh, the haunting ruins of Minster Lovell. For the young, or young at heart, there is Cotswold Wildlife Park, and those with artistic inclinations will enjoy Aston Pottery and Cotswold Woollen Weavers. With a wide variety of museums and so much more you really are spoilt for choice.

The Oxfordshire Cotswolds is a nationally recognised centre for antiques but the lively market towns of Burford, Chipping Norton, Witney and Woodstock also boast a host of other small speciality shops and boutiques that make shopping here a real pleasure.

With excellent accommodation, ranging from traditional country inns to canal boats and from self-catering cottages to campsites, the Oxfordshire Cotswolds is the perfect destination. Oxford to the east, Stratford-upon-Avon & Warwick to the north and Bath to the south west also make this an ideal base from which to tour.
