Footscape, the specialist provider of hiking, garden and heritage tours in Dorset, is based and operates exclusively in Dorset. That is why we can provide a personal service ensuring a hassle-free experience from the moment you arrive until your departure.
We offer a small but meticulously researched range of walking holidays along the superb Jurassic Coast (a World Heritage Site) and in unspoilt Thomas Hardy country. These are inclusive of a choice of hand-picked accommodation, transportation to and from the trail (where required) and our own Trail Guidebooks that provide practical information, detailed walking directions and descriptions of the history, legends and personalities of key places along the trail.
For the independent walker our popular inn to inn hiking holidays can be taken along part of the stunning Jurassic Coast or along our timeless Inland Heritage trail. Other independent hikes are based in a choice of exceptional locations: the stunning region of Purbeck, the Georgian beach town of Weymouth, the stone and thatch village of Abbotsbury close to Chesil Beach, the attractive and historic seaside resort of Lyme Regis and the picture postcard village of Cerne Abbas, voted in 2008 as “the most sought after village in the country”.
In order to respond to the requirements of families with children, Footscape offers a lot of flexibility on its scheduled self-guided holidays. Daily walking distances can be shortened at either end, if required, as the Footcape vehicle can drop off or pick up anybody who does not want to do the full number of miles. Even alternative activities can be organised for those who wish.
We also operate small-group garden tours, which visit 4 of Dorset's most beautiful gardens and include short optional walks in lovely countryside. Our Thomas Hardy tour - a self-guided walk or an accompanied tour - can be combined with the Garden tour to make a 5 night holiday. It is packed with interest, visiting key places associated with Hardy's life and work, as well as with his much younger friend, Lawrence of Arabia. And last but not least, we have introduced a 2 night guided walking tour of Sherborne, Dorset's most beautiful and historic town, with its two castles owned at one time by Sir Walter Raleigh and its magnificent Abbey Church.
