Pubs and Inns in Cornwall, England.
Mount Edgcumbe House, nr Torpoint
One of the country’s most sparsely populated counties, Cornwall lies in the South West corner of England with Devon as its solitary neighbour. The Cornish peninsular reaches out to the Atlantic ocean and typifies for many the legend and mystery associated with England. Many legends have links here with the strongest being that of Arthur Pendragon (see windswept Tintagel on the Atlantic Coast). Pushed into the South West corner by a series of invaders beginning with the Romans, the Cornish have always retained a strong Celtic side to their character and many ancient traditions and customs are still a part of everyday life. It is rugged and windswept to the west where the shore is battered by the ferocious rolling waves of the Atlantic Ocean. To the south, not forgetting Lands End of course, lies a softer coastline dotted with resorts like Penzance and St Austell and elegant fishing ports. Cornwall is home to many fantastic historic attractions, many of which are managed by The National Trust and English Heritage but for botanists and garden enthusiasts Cornwall, out of all the English counties, is the place to be. With the gulf stream washing its lengthy rugged shores, Cornwall can boast a plethora of tropical gardens including Trewithen, Trevarno, Trebah, and the Eden Project to mention just a few.
