Museums and Art Galleries in Yorkshire, England.

The landscapes of the north cannot fail to inspire - being the source of inspiration for numerous poets and writers. The wild beauty of the heathercarpeted Yorkshire moors infuses the work of the Bronte sisters, such as Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights and at their home in Haworth in West Yorkshire, you will gain a poignant insight into their brief lives.

A nostalgic journey by steam on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway brings you to one of the most dramatic coastlines in the country. Stretching from the Humber River and the world’s longest suspension bridge, up
past the towering chalk cliffs of Flamborough head, the seaside town of Scarborough and the pastel-coloured house of Robin Hood’s Bay to Whitby.

Clustered steeply around its harbour and overlooked by the Abbey, Whitby is recognisably where Bram Stoker set many of Dracula’s chilling scenes. It was also where the great explorer Captain Cook set sail for Australia. The Cook Trail begins here and leads on to the pretty fishing village of Staithes where he was apprenticed as a boy.

Beautiful York is a city of living history. The lanes of the medieval shambles, filled with speciality shops, lead to the magnificent York Minster one of the treasures of Britain.

There are many exciting museums and Historic Houses to discover around Yorkshire including Burton Agnes Hall in Driffield, York Minster, the Jorvik Viking Centre and Fairfax House in York, Castle Howard, Harewood House, Fountains Abbey, Kiplin Hall, Sutton Park, York Minster, and the Jorvik Viking Centre which transports you back to the sights, sounds and smells of the Viking era.
