Battle Abbey, Battle.
The county of Sussex is situated on the south coast of England, sandwiched between Kent, Surrey and Hampshire. The landscape rises and falls like waves, known for its downlands (The North and South Downs) and tree thickened weald. It has seen much history, most notably the Battle of Hastings in 1066 which changed the course of history in the western world. The coast here is dotted with resorts, Brighton being the most elegant, and inland the old towns and villages like Rye and Alfriston are especially intriguing.
Historic houses of note include Arundel Castle, Bodiam Castle, the Royal Pavilion and Battle Abbey. The Weald and Downland Open Air Museum outside Chichester provides a unique insight into the architectural and social county.
Good quality accommodation is available throught Sussex with country house hotels, pubs, inns and cottages all available throught the county to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
