Built some time in the late 1800s, the Chandlers Hotel has a history that may be linked to Thomas Hardy, whose sketches match various aspects of the hotel's architecture. Proprietors purchased the hotel in 2001 and promptly closed it for a year, carefully refurbishing the whole building to an exceptionally high standard.
