Sherborne Castle online: information and bookings

Built by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1594 and the stately home of the Digby family since 1617, Sherborne Castle is an historic house which reflects a glorious variety of decorative styles from over 400 years of English history. Come and visit the Castle's rich interiors with its splendid collections of art, furniture and porcelain, together with Raleigh's original kitchen, family artifacts and archaeological 'finds' from the old medieval castle which are on view in the castle cellars.

'Capability' Brown created the lake in 1753 and gave Sherborne the very latest in landscape gardening, with magnificent specimen trees, borders and sweeping lawns in one of his finest lake landscapes you will see. Today you can explore beautiful Lakeside Gardens and grounds surrounding the 50 acre lake and enjoy the beauty, peace and tranquility of this perfect natural setting. Watch the abundant wildlife on the lake, feed the ducks, have a picnic, walk the dogs or simply relax!

A friendly Tea Room serves morning coffees, light lunches and delicious afternoon teas whilst the Gift Shop has a selection of gifts, souvenirs and Sherborne Castle wines from its own local vineyard.

A programme of Special Events runs through the season, and the Castle is available as a venue for a variety of private functions and weddings.

Why not make a day of Sherborne and combine a trip to Sherborne Castle with the historic market town of Sherborne; close by, with its magnificent Abbey, beautiful medieval buildings, delightful art, craft and antiques shops, not to mention cafes and tearooms aplenty, Sherborne is, without doubt, a regional centre not to be missed.

Open: The Castle and Gardens are open daily, except Monday and Friday (open Bank Holiday Mondays), from 30th March to 31st October, 11.00am to 4.30pm last admission (on Saturdays, the Castle interior opens later at 2.00pm). Admission charged, children free; see website for current details.
