SMALL ATTRACTION OF THE YEAR 2005 AWARD
The clockwork toy racing car shown on the home page is made of red metal dated 1950-1960 which is currently on display with other toys of that period.
Moyse’s Hall was awarded Small Attraction of the Year 2005 (under 100,000 visitors) by the East of England Tourist Board in October 2005. For this award the Museum had to meet certain criteria, covering a two year period. This included: Our target markets; How we attract visitors; Improvements to the service; Customer satisfaction; Training; Access and the DDA; Caring for the Environment; Involving the Community and local economy. A mystery shopper visit was also carried out to evaluate the service offered.
Moyse’s Hall is accessible to all and in the last two years has introduced taped tours aimed at the partially sighted, guided tours with a Victorian gentleman and produced two new loan boxes for use by schools and other community groups.
A regular programme of events is planned throughout the year and details are available from the Museum.
For almost a thousand years Moyse's Hall has looked out over the Market Place of Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. It has seen many changes since it was built in 1180 and provides an excellent setting in which to trace the unfolding story of West Suffolk, through displays which range from prehistoric times right through to the present.
Outstanding archaeological collections carry us back to Bronze Age, Roman and Mediaeval times. More recent history is interpreted through displays which reveal the rich and sometimes life of a small rural community and chronicle the achievements of its people.
Whether you are looking for relics of the great medieval abbey or the relics of the notorious Red Barn Murder you will find them in Moyse's Hall, whose own story is as rich and varied as the collections which it houses.
