Richmond upon Thames online: information and bookings

Welcome to Richmond upon Thames, a jewel in London’s crown. London's greenest and probably most attractive borough, it has long been a favourite retreat for Royalty and the rich and famous. Richmond lies 15 miles southwest of Central London, yes it’s only 15 minutes away from London Waterloo by fast train. Richmond can also be reached tube, bus, car and boat, and is among the safest places in London to cycle and walk.

The River Thames runs through the borough for over 10 miles, linking Hampton Court Palace, Richmond Town Centre and Kew Gardens with London. Richmond rivals anywhere in London with its beautiful Royal Parks and open spaces, historic houses, theatres, museums, galleries, exhibits and town centres bursting with life.

Richmond upon Thames is a lively cultural hub that offers the finest entertainment outside Central London. West End shows preview at Richmond Theatre and the exciting Orange Tree Theatre, London’s only permanent ‘theatre in the round’. Orleans House Gallery, with its stunning baroque Octagon Room, is home to the Arts Service, which hosts an exciting programme of exhibitions and events all year round. The Museum of Richmond and Twickenham Museum between them reveal the history of the whole borough, while the Landmark Arts Centre in Teddington has something to engage and entertain all ages.

Historic gems not to miss include Strawberry Hill House - Horace Walpole’s ‘little Gothic castle’, Ham House (National Trust), Marble Hill House (English Heritage), Turner’s House in Twickenham and the Iconic View from Richmond Hill, the only view in the UK protected by an Act of Parliament and unchanged since 1902.

The National Archives, based in Kew, holds 900 years of historical records including the Domesday Book. Twickenham Rugby Stadium regularly hosts national and international rugby matches, and a visit to the World Rugby Museum and Stadium Tours will be the ultimate experience for rugby union fans.
