Pontypool Park online: information and bookings
Pontypool Park is locally known as the People’s Park, covering some 64 hectares with several historical features - including Italian Gardens, Ice Houses, Folly Tower and Shell Grotto - which are being restored with a Heritage Lottery Fund grant and funding from Torfaen County Borough Council.
Facilities include a children's play area, rugby pitch (home to Pontypool RFC), tennis courts, putting course, bowls and a dry ski slope.
There are footpath links into the Brecon Beacons National Park on the most northern boundary.
'A Walk in Pontypool Park' has been designed to illustrate how the park has evolved from the private residence of the local ironmaster to the peoples park of today. A copy of the leaflet can be downloaded.
The Park is open to all. Entrance is free, although admission charges may apply for major events.?
The Shell Grotto and Folly Tower are open weekends and bank holidays from May until September, 2 - 5pm, but the main Park is open all year round.
