Elgar Birthplace Museum online: information and bookings
The Birthplace Cottage and the Elgar Centre together tell the story of Sir Edward Elgar, the composer of
• The Pomp and Circumstance Marches (including the Land of Hope and Glory tune)
• Nimrod in the Enigma Variations
• The cello concerto symphonies choral works and much more.
Inside the Cottage, visit Elgar's study, with his gramophone, and his desk just as his wife Alice prepared it. See Victorian and Edwardian family photographs and mementoes, his books, cycling maps, golf clubs and microscope, and discover his many other hobbies. Trace his European and American travels.
Stroll across to the Elgar Centre, where manuscripts, music scores, letters, concert programmes, photographs and personal possessions illustrate Elgar's musical life. Discover the people and places which inspired him, and his enthusiasm for the early days of recording. See his many awards and honours, and historic film from his final years.
