Over the last eight years the proprietors Joan and Phil Butterworth have undertaken a major refurbishment of the existing building, constructed a superb conference and function suite, and built ground floor courtyard bedrooms ideal for persons with disabilities or find climbing stairs more difficult. Cockermouth Renown for being the birthplace of William Wordsworth Cockermouth nestles in the north of the unspoilt Lake District. Cockermouth is a typical market town with a local auction mart, a selection of traditional shops and many other attractions. Jennings Brewery is a popular tourist location where you can see and taste the traditional beers being brewed. There are several small museums within the town, which include Fossils, Minerals Toys and Printing. Just thirteen miles from the ports of Workington and Maryport and a little further down the coast is the very popular tourist attraction of Sellafield. South of Cockermouth through the Lorton valley are three of the Lake districts most spectacular lakes. (Buttermere, Crummock and Loweswater.) The ideal locations for just a short stroll or for that long hike.
