Gilpin Lodge is an elegant, friendly, relaxing 14 bedroom country house hotel and restaurant set in 20 tranquil acres of woodlands, moors and country gardens two miles from Lake Windermere and 12 miles from the M6 motorway.
The original building dates from 1901 and, since then, has been converted to incorporate all the comforts of a luxury hotel. Sumptuous bedrooms (many with 4 posters and Jacuzzi baths.
Flowers in profusion, picture-lined walls, antique furniture and real fires in winter are all part of John and Christine Cunliffe's perception of hospitality.
The beautiful gardens are the perfect place in which to savour the stunning Lakeland scenery. Windermere golf club is opposite and special green fees apply. This is Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter country and there are many stately homes, gardens and castles nearby. Almost every imaginable outdoor activity can be pursued in the area.

Enjoy fabulous food at this friendly, family-run, luxury hotel and restaurant near Windermere. Passionate about using the finest ingredients, with local and organic suppliers where possible, food has always been important at Gilpin Lodge.
When the Cunliffes first took over in 1987, Christine was Head (and only) Chef. Now there are nine, with Chris Meredith as our talented Head Chef. Awards proudly held by the hotel include AA 3 rosettes, Egon Ronay RAC 2 stars, the Good Food Guide (Rating 6) and Lancashire Life Restaurant of the Year 2006.
It's hard to place a label on the food. It's classically based yet thoroughly modern with emphasis on the use of local produce. It's imaginative without being silly, it's fresh, and is prepared and served with a great deal of care.
