Royal Armouries Museum online: information and bookings
The Royal Armouries Museum was opened by HM the Queen in 1996 and is home to a collection of arms and armour spanning over 3000 years of history from the Dark Ages to present day. 8000 exhibits are on permanent display in five beautifully themed galleries; War, Tournament, Self Defence, Hunting and Oriental.
See for yourself the treasures on view and hear the stories behind some of the many objects. Will your favourite be the 16c Moghul elephant armour, Henry VIII’s tournament armour or the beautiful, intricate lion armour?
We pride ourselves on bringing history to life through our interpreters who describe accounts of the people whose lives have been touched by the objects on display. Stand aghast as you witness an authentic sword fight or pollaxe combat in full armour which weighs over 60lbs!
From April to October* the Tiltyard comes alive with the sound of pounding hooves, clashing lances, cheers and applause. Our fascinating demonstrations including jousting, hunting games and falconry displays will have you clutching to the edge of your seat with excitement and sheer entertainment.
If you have not visited the Royal Armouries then make it your next port of call as we truly do have something for the entire family and because no two days are ever the same, repeat visits will always be a new and enjoyable experience. Museum entry is free so there really is no excuse! Come along and find out for yourself why this is an experience not to be missed.
