Frampton Court Estate occupies an idyllic spot in and around the lovely village of Frampton-on-Severn on the east bank of the River Severn in Gloucestershire. The two main houses on the Estate - the romantic timber-framed 16th century Manor house and the splendid 18th century Frampton Court - sit opposite each other on either side of the glorious village green, which is reputed to be the longest green in England. Frampton is celebrated for its picturesque rural scene and its bustling village life, in particular the cricket on the green during the summer, and the fine views of Frampton Court and its stunning Orangery, and The Manor with its magnificent Wool Barn.

Frampton is an historic place, and the history of the village, the Estate and the Clifford family have always been closely entwined. The Cliffords first settled in Frampton at the end of the 11th century, and have remained custodians of the Estate ever since. Legend tells that Jane Clifford was born in the Bower at The Manor at Frampton in the 12th century. She is better known perhaps as 'Fair Rosamund', mistress of Henry II and rival to the jealous Queen Eleanor, and her Bower can still be visited at The Manor today. The magnificent village green is named after Jane as 'Rosamund's Green'. Nowadays, the Estate comprises 1500 acres of farmed arable land, woodlands, lakes and wetlands - which provide wonderful walks and bridal paths - as well as many of the handsome buildings in the village.

Gardens form an important part of the history and life of Frampton. The garden and magnificent park at Frampton Court is grade 1 listed. The highlight of the garden is architectural, rather than horticultural, in the form of the breath-taking 18th century Orangery with its elegant ornamental canal. The Manor garden is intimate with its lovely brick walls and is the plantsman's delight with its host of unusual plants and clever garden design. On an artistic note, Frampton is home to the Frampton Flora, an exquisite collection of 19th century watercolours executed by several generations of Clifford ladies and housed at Frampton Court.
