The Walled Garden at Scampston online: information and bookings
Rhythmic design and innovative planting combine in this contemporary garden which complements the period house and landscape garden. A bold mix of formal and informal elements has been created from a design by the internationally acclaimed designer, Piet Oudolf. Every aspect of this garden speaks of quality; the gravel paths have been constructed from a wheelchair friendly material; the brick paths are of hand made brick meticulously laid and the seats are a splendid modern design by the young Dutch furniture maker, Piet Hein Eek. This garden will ‘set standards for 21st century gardens for many years to come’ (Carrie McArdle in The Garden, November 2004).
Described by Stephen Anderton in The Times as ‘a gem’. The garden is complemented by an excellent restaurant under the same management as ‘The Star at Harome’, holder of a Michelin star.
