Seven miles from the heart of historic Oxford lies Waterperry Gardens – the 9 acres of beautiful ornamental gardens are home to one of the country’s most beautiful herbaceous border, formal knot and rose gardens, spectacular white and lavender wisteria arch, water lily canal, alpine garden and riverside walk. Established as a School of Horticulture for Ladies by Beatrix Havergal in 1932, in addition to the much-extended formal gardens, it is now home to a plant centre and garden shop, gallery, gift barn, teashop and museum. The plant centre, housed within the ancient walled garden offers plant connoisseurs and budding amateurs alike the chance to buy unusual varieties of shrubs and herbaceous plants whilst friendly and knowledgeable staff are always available to provide advice, information and inspiration. There’s also a wide range of bedding, herbs and vegetable plants in season and the garden shop has a great range of garden sundries, tools, bulbs and seeds. The five acres of historic orchards at Waterperry Gardens grow fifty different varieties of apple, many heritage, from which the delicious apple juices and ciders are produced and sold in both the garden shop and the teashop. The apples are harvested by hand and juiced onsite using time-honoured methods.

For some retail therapy, the Gallery and Gift Barn offer beautiful, affordable and unusual gifts to suit all tastes and budgets. There's also a small Rural Life Museum, Saxon Church and a delightful teashop offering homemade chutneys, light lunches and cakes, all made onsite using the finest ingredients.

You will find a full programme of year-round events at Waterperry Gardens, from horticulturally themed weekends to outdoor family theatre, concerts, opera and always something fun for the children to do in the holidays - Waterperry Gardens makes for a perfect day out.
