Hemerdon House online: information and bookings
Hemerdon House was built by the Woollcombe family in the late 18th century, and we are fortunate that, many generations on, it is still in our possession today.
The house is situated in the beautiful South Hams area of Devon, approximately 40 minutes' drive from Exeter and 20 minutes from Plymouth. Set in landscaped parkland, and rejoicing in a pond and a walled garden, Hemerdon is a peaceful retreat from the hurly-burly of everyday life.
We are delighted to show visitors round the main rooms, with their contents accumulated by our ancestors since the house was built. Visitors are also very welcome to explore the grounds (at their own risk) while the house is open.
Facilities
• The house will be open from 2.15pm to 5.30pm with two tours of approximately 1 hour 15 minutes each, starting at 2.30pm and 4pm respectively. Visitors are also welcome, at their own risk, to stroll round the grounds while the house is open.• Group Tours - Tours for groups of more than 10 people are offered by prior arrangement only.
• Larger Parties of more than 6 are strongly advised to contact us in advance as we cannot otherwise guarantee that we will be able to accommodate them.
• There is wheelchair access to all the reception rooms on the ground floor, housing most of the pieces of historical significance, but due to the geography of the house there is no wheelchair access to the first floor and no disabled WC. Access to the grounds and parkland is limited. Please contact us for more information
