Fursdon is an elegant manor house nestling in some of the most beautiful countryside to be found in Devon. It is the family home of the Fursdons whose ancestors have lived on the estate since 1259.
Visitors can walk through the acres of woodlands, park and farmland on the estate. The land has a natural population of deer, badgers and birdlife as well as rare plants, grasses and traditional broadleaved woodlands.
There are woodland walks and a footpath to Cadbury Castle, an Iron Age and Roman hill fort which is about half a mile away with a moderate climb. There is also a shorter walk, but with a steep climb to the top of The Park, the views from which are wonderful..
The land looks beautiful at all times of the year from the blossoms and bluebells in the spring to the reds and golds of Autumn. Even the bracing winter winds can be enjoyed with the promise of returning to a roaring log fire.
Conservation is an integral part of our management plan and this involves preserving hedges, maintaining orchards and reintroducing orchards where were known to have been in years gone by. Some of the old traditional pastures are free of fertilizer and herbicide use to preserve the plant diversity.
A small flock of Black Welsh Mountain sheep graze the pastures around the house and other traditional breeds of sheep and cattle graze the remainder.
