Situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park Bolton Abbey is the Yorkshire Estate of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. Follow in the footsteps of famous visitors such as Landseer, Turner and Wordsworth who were inspired by this romantic location. Explore the ruins of the Priory and discover a landscape full of history and legend, wander along the riverside, woodland and moorland paths or simply relax beside the river and enjoy a picnic.

Situated over looking the river Wharfe are the ruins of the 12th century Priory and the parish church with its rare stained glass windows by Augustus Pugin. Visitors are welcome to wander round the ruins and pop in the church. Church guides are available everyday during the summer months to answer any questions.

There are walks to suit all ages and abilities including the network of nature trails through Strid Wood, one of the largest remnants of acidic oak woodland in Yorkshire and home to a rich variety of wild flowers.

Electric wheelchairs are available from April to October giving access to the Priory Ruins, Riverside, Strid Wood and the spectacular Strid where the waters of the broad river Wharfe are funnelled through a narrow gorge.

The gift shops and food shop offer a wide selection of products ensuring there is something for everyone, coupled with the excellent restaurants, tearooms and refreshment kiosks they contribute to an enjoyable day out.
