Arbury Hall online: information and bookings

Built on the site of, and from the masonry of an Augustinian Priory which was founded in the 12th century, Arbury Hall has been the seat of the Viscount Daventry and the Newdigate family since 1586.

Rightly deserving its title, “The Gothic Gem of the Midlands”, Arbury hall proudly sits in the centre of a large wooded estate, (a deer park until the beginning of this century), amidst spectacular gardens and surrounded by lakes and canals.

The Hall was ‘gothicised’ by the 5th Baronet, Sir Roger Newdigate, in the 18th century. A gifted amateur draughtsman and architect, he designed much of the spectacular plasterwork for which the house is renowned himself, copying unashamedly from his favourite medieval buildings, Westminster Abbey in particular. He carefully conserved the original Tudor/Elizabethan house in such a way as to make Arbury a unique stately home.

The plasterwork is of such splendour that it has been immortalised by the famous English authoress, George Eliot (who was born on the estate and knew the house well). Her descriptions of the Saloon and Dining Room ceilings in her book, “Scenes of Clerical Life”, are as true today as when the book was written

Apart from the magnificent plasterwork, the house contains a notable collection of paintings (including family portraits and those of royalty), furniture and other works of art, such as a complete set of Jacobean drinking glasses, accumulated down the centuries by successive generations of the family; and here and there are reminders of the connection the estate had with the lives of three English Queens and its relationship with the Shakespeare story.

Words cannot adequately describe the splendour of Arbury and its magnificent gardens with rolling lawns and serpentine paths bordered by rhododendrons and other colourful shrubs and flowers, including a giant wisteria.

An ideal location for Corporate Hospitality Events, Photo shoots, Product Launches and Activity Days. Corporate lunches and dinners catered for.
