Nostell Priory and Parkland online: information and bookings
Welcome to Nostell Priory and Parkland, one of Yorkshire’s finest jewels. Built on the site of a medieval priory, the present house was begun in 1733 for the 4th Baronet, Sir Rowland Winn, the house is an architectural masterpiece by James Paine. The State Rooms were later completed by Robert Adam and are magnificent examples of 18th century interior design and are among the finest examples of his work.
The internationally renowned collection of furniture was designed and made by Thomas Chippendale especially for the house. The Library table and richly carved lyre back chairs, together with the green and gold ‘chinoiserie’ furniture in the State Bedroom and Dressing Room show Chippendale at his most accomplished.
Wander through the scented Rose Garden and enjoy a gentle lakeside walk to the Menagerie Garden where the beautiful magnolia is in full bloom in early summer. The gardens at Nostell have recently been surveyed and extensively researched – many 18th century features survive and, over the next few years, visitors can delight in seeing them restored.
Nostell Priory is an exciting place to visit with all the family. Tracker packs and trails for the children, introductory talks in the house, croquet on the lawn, gentle walks around the lakeside and Menagerie Garden and an extensive programme of events – there is something for everyone.
