Cottesbrooke Hall & Gardens online: information and bookings
A magnificent Queen Anne house dating from 1702, containing the Woolavington collection of sporting pictures. Portraits, bronzes, 18th century English and French furniture and fine porcelain are also amongst the treasures of Cottesbrooke Hall. In the formal gardens, huge 300-year-old cedars set off magnificent double herbaceous borders, pools and lily ponds. The Wild Garden is a short walk across the park and is planted along the course of a stream.
The remarkable 18th century landscaping of the Park, its vistas and lakes, are by an unknown hand - much has recently been restored. The celebrated gardens are of great variety with fine old cedars and specimen trees.
The formal and wild gardens surrounding and adjacent to the house have been mainly developed during the present century and these developments have continued to the present day.
A number of distinguished landscape designers have been involved - Robert Weir Schultz, Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe and Dame Sylvia Crowe. The main inspiration came from the late Hon. Lady Macdonald-Buchanan. The present owner's parents have endeavoured to continue these developments with more recent design inspiration from James Alexander-Sinclair.
Cottesbrooke Hall has previously won the Historic Houses Association / Christie's ‘Garden of the Year’ Award and has been nominated as one of the best gardens in the world by "1001" Gardens You Must See Before You Die"
