Pencarrow online: information and bookings

Pencarrow estate has been the home of the Molesworth family and their descendants since Elizabethan times. Sir John Molesworth, 5th Baronet, completed the existing 50-room Georgian mansion in 1771.

A guided tour around the eleven public rooms does much more than display a superb collection of antique furniture, paintings and porcelain; it makes the family’s history come alive whilst having that warmth which reminds you it is still the privately owned and lived in home of the Molesworth-St Aubyn family.

Approached by a magnificent mile-long carriage drive, Pencarrow is stately, yet friendly and not at all intimidating. Around the Palladian mansion are formal Grade 2* Listed gardens set out by Sir William Molesworth from 1831. A large Victorian rock garden, planted with shrubs, was built with boulders brought by cart from Bodmin Moor.

Geometry rules in the gardens on either side of the House, with circular lawns and rectangular beds. Some 50 acres of parkland, lake and woodland boast many varieties of rhododendrons and many camellias, easily accessible along well-maintained footpaths. Peacocks welcome you in the only way that peacocks can but Pencarrow is loved for the charming friendliness of the notices, urging you to enjoy the garden and woodlands.

Enjoy The Peacock Cafe and a Wendy House for children to enjoy. The atmosphere at this grand mansion is warm and gentle, and dogs are allowed off the lead in the woodland.
