HISTORIC LETCHWORTH
The Museum is housed in the drawing offices of the town’s original architects Barry Parker and Raymond Unwin.
It provides a fascinating insight into the vision of one of the world’s great social reformers and his concept of a “social city”.
Ebenezer Howard, social reformer and founder of the Garden City Movement, believed that the problems of overcrowding, pollution and poor living conditions could be solved through the marriage of town and country.
His vision was realised by the building of Letchworth Garden City and the story of this unique town is told at the First Garden City Heritage Museum.
Apart from the many exhibits demonstrating the development of the World’s First Garden City, the Museum also holds regular special exhibitions and events relating to the town’s history.
The Museum also provides talks and guided tours of the town.
Open Monday to Saturday, 10am-5pm. Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.
