With it’s towns and villages set amid some of the most beautiful countryside in Britain, the Wycombe district also enjoys easy access to London, Oxford and Heathrow.

Covering over 125 square miles, three quarters of the Wycombe district is rural, with much of the countryside designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s built up areas vary in size and character from High Wycombe with it’s bustling town centre, to the colourful and vibrant towns of Marlow and Princes Risborough.

At the end of High Wycombe’s Georgian High Street sits the Guildhall where Benjamin Disraeli, who once lived at nearby Hughenden Manor, addressed his public meetings. Each year the town honours its unique annual tradition of weighing the mayor, which has origins dating back hundreds of years. Steeped in Victorian and World War Two history Hughenden Manor and it’s grounds are today owned by the National Trust and open to the public.

Marlow has a worldwide reputation as a charming and historic town on the north bank of the River Thames. With riverside walks, fine Georgian buildings, an impressive church and splendid suspension bridge it attracts thousands of visitors every year. In Higginson Park, there is a statue dedicated to the town’s most famous resident, Olympic legend Sir Steve Redgrave. Other notable residents of the town have included Jerome K. Jerome and Mary Shelley.

Princes Risborough enjoys a fascinating history of it’s own. Overlooking the town is the distinctive Whiteleaf Cross, an ancient chalk carving and a dominant feature in the Chiltern Hills. The prehistoric Ridgeway route runs through Princes Risborough as an extensive network of footpaths and cycle routes making it a popular retreat for walkers and cyclists.

In between the district’s larger towns can be found a treasure trove of quintessential English villages and hamlets. Hambleden, Turville and Fingest located in the south west of the district are especially popular with film makers and have been used as locations for popular TV series including ‘The Vicar of Dibley’ and ‘Midsomer Mudrers’.
