Middlethorpe Hall, York, is a William III country house, close to the city, set in 20 acres of its own gardens and parkland. Built in 1699, it was once the home of the famous diarist, Lady Mary Wortley Montagu.

After a period of neglect, Middlethorpe Hall was purchased and restored by Historic House Hotels who also own Hartwell House, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, and Bodysgallen Hall, North Wales. The house is now decorated with antiques and fine pictures carefully chosen as consistent with the period of the house. The gardens and parkland have also been restored and include ha ha's, a white garden, a walled garden, a small lake and some beautiful specimen trees.

Middlethorpe Hall is well known for its comfortable, luxurious atmosphere and the hotel's individual guest rooms and cottage suites are no exception.

The comfortable and fully equipped bedrooms, each decorated individually, are both in the house and in the attractively restored 18th century courtyard next to it. There are several room types ranging from single rooms to a deluxe suite in the main house. Ten of the rooms are in the historic hall, sixteen in the 18th Century classical courtyard, as well as a garden suite and two suites in an adjacent cottage.
