Chillingham Castle Accommodation online: information and bookings
Situated in a parkland setting in Northumberland’s famously beautiful countryside, Chillingham Castle offers the rare experience of staying in one of the very few surviving mediaeval fortresses; the home of the Grey family since 1245. The Castle has survived many sieges and hosted many reigning monarchs since Henry III in 1255 and Edward I stayed here in 1298. A more recent royal visitor was Edward, Prince of Wales in 1872 when he shot a bull from the famous Chillingham herd of white cattle which roam in the park. Recently, Chillingham Castle has been restored by Sir Humphry Wakefield and now you can see the Castle as it was for hundreds of years. The Great Hall and Minstrel’s Gallery have antique furniture, tapestries, arms and armour. The castle is surrounded by lawns and formal gardens, including an intricate topiary garden. The woodland is carpeted with flowers in the spring and early summer, making the walk to the lake a delight. A wing of the castle has been converted into comfortable holiday apartments. The extensive grounds are accessible. Fishing is also available on the River Till. Within a few miles of the coast and being in close proximity to several golf courses, Chillingham is ideally situated.
