Painshill Park is a unique, award-winning retstoration of England’s Georgian Heritage. Created by the Hon Charles Hamilton between 1738 and 1773 as a series of carefully designed views known as the Hamilton landscapes. The visitor moves from scene to scene, to the ruined abbey, past the vineyard to an evergreen amphitheatre and on to the Gothic Temple, from the magical crystal grotto to the Mausoleum, from a wild wood to the colourful flower beds that surround the site of the Temple of Bacchus. Painshill Park is a jewel of English culture and a source of peace and inspiration.

In July 2005 – American Roots – a major exhibition recreating the 18th century exchange of plants between Europe and America will open in the walled garden.

This unique horticultural display in the Walled Garden will showcase the collection of authentically sourced North American plants (some originating from John Bartram's very collecting sites) and trace their progress through the 18th century growing techniques. Enjoy the scents and colours. Explore the stories of our horticultural heritage brought to life. Then discover the inspired final setting for these early American visitors, among The Hamilton Landscapes at Painshill Park.
