Wellington Monument online: information and bookings

The 175ft high obelisk was erected to celebrate the Duke of Wellington’s victory over Napoleon in the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 and can be climbed by an internal staircase of 235 steps to a small viewing chamber with panoramic views.

The tower is owned by the National Trust and is sited on the highest point in the Blackdown Hills AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). The views across the Vale of Taunton to the Bristol Channel and Exmoor are well worth seeing. Small free car park on site and woodland walks leading up to the monument itself. For more information contact Wellington Tourist Information Centre.
