Like a fair sister of the sky, unruffled doth the blue lake lie, the mountains looking on”. William Wordsworth, who wrote these words about Rydal Water from White Moss viewpoint, once owned White Moss House. Now it is an intimate, highly rated hotel and restaurant run by Master Chef Peter Dixon and his wife Sue. Recommended by the Good Food Guide for 32 years, praised by all the leading hotel and restaurant guides and with AA Rosettes and Red Stars, this charming hotel is ideally placed overlooking Rydal Water in the heart of Lakeland.

Restaurant
Famous for 30 years for outstanding food and wine White Moss House in Grasmere has an international reputation for serving the very best of modern English food. Highly recommended by the Good Food Guide since 1974, and holding AA Rosettes, Chef patron Peter Dixon is described by Bon Appetit Magazine as "an intuitive cook, with a fine grasp of textures and flavours shown in his wonderful five course meals."

"The accolades have come thick and fast for 30 years, due mainly to Peter Dixon's five course dinners" (The Observer)

"In the pretty dining room, with its polished mahogany tables, Peter's cooking style moves with the times" (Time Out)

Peter is a Master Chef of Great Britain, and he takes pride in using the finest local ingredients available. Free range and organic produce is often used and a traditional English pudding is always offered as one of the wonderful desserts.

For lovers of wine White Moss is heaven. With over 300 bins dating back to 1928, the list is described by the Good Food Guide as "a stunning array...prices range from fair to impressively low."

Peter and Sue personally select at least 10 wines, which are served by the glass, and in a tasting by Wine Magazine of all the top restaurants lists, White Moss was the winner.
