A favourite with visitors as a rare example of a 14th century castle converted to a tower house in the 17th century. Erstwhile home of the Fraser, Hay and Douglas families, Neidpath is an authentic 'as it was' castle with a unique atmosphere. Of interest is the pit prison, with occupant! Displayed in the great hall is an exhibit of stunningly beautiful batiks depicting the life of Mary Queen of Scots. The Laigh Hall contains informative displays and a large tartan collection. Fine views of the surrounding countryside can be seen from the parapet walls. The castle was used as the film location for 'The Bruce', 'Joan of Arc', 'King Lear' and 'Merlin - The Quest Begins'. Find us one mile west of Peebles on the A72, you may even meet our ghost, The Maid of Neidpath!
