Described as "deeply satisfying" by The Times, this 18th century Palladian style former rectory boasts period furniture, objects d'art and open fires. Enjoy a game of croquet on the lawn; a drink in the historic bar; or a meticulously prepared meal of rare quality. With spacious, sophisticated rooms and superb rural views; this is one of "The 50 best places for Honeymooners in the world" (The Independent). Bright, elegant multi-functional conference rooms also make this an ideal spot for conferences or weddings. Built in 1790 and the former home of village rectors, the Painswick Hotel is situated amid the Medieval cottages and Georgian merchant house of Painswick village - sometimes referred to as the "Queen of the Cotswolds." For dining, you have the choice of The Old Rectory Restaurant or, during the summer months, Al fresco meals on the terrace at Caffe Giardino, which specialises in light lunchtime meals set against a spectacular backdrop. Meals are prepared using fresh produce, carefully sourced from the finest local and national sources - Cornish farmed, West Country Lamb; corn-fed free range Goosnargh duck; fresh, hand-dived Scottish coastal scallops and hand-made Jersey double Gloucester are just a few of the specialties. The hotel is a member of the Scotch Beef Club, of which only 200 of Britain's finest restaurants can claim membership. The hotel currently holds two AA Rosettes, awarded for culinary excellence. The hotel bar was originally the private Chapel of the house and it retains many original features including a superb carved wood ceiling and an unusual and rather unique serving counter - the original Baptismal font. Specially prepared cocktails and the finest wines are available. There are 3 conference and meeting rooms, with a combined maximum capacity of 92. Boardroom, theatre, classroom and informal meeting styles can all be catered for in the bright, elegant rooms. Flip-charts, an OHP, stereo and screen are all provided - TV, VCR, projectors, lecterns and camcorders are available for additional fees. The hotel has received highly favourable reviews from The Good Food Guide, The Good Hotel Guide, BBC Good Food and several national newspapers.
