The hotel has been visited by Kings and Queens, actors and writers. Charles Dickens who stayed in the hotel whilst giving readings of his books in the Athenaeum, mentioned the hotel in The Pickwick Papers. In the lounge choose a range of offerings from Italian cappuccinos through to the finest English loose leaf tea. With its log fire it is a popular meeting place for the towns people and through in the Pickwick bar there is an interesting collection of local ales and whiskeys.
